Infertility is heart breaking for anyone wanting to conceive. The two week wait each month to find out if the sperm and egg has merged to become your new family member in nine months time can, and usually is, agonising. As much as you want to carry on as normal, this is rarely the case in reality. Homeopathic treatment has in many cases the potential to help people finding themselves involuntarily childless become pregnant.
What has homeopathy got to offer people who find themselves infertile?
In general, infertility in women is treated with the same synthetic hormones (or surgery) irrespective of the reason behind the infertility, the same generally applies to males. Homeopathic treatment involves thoroughly going through current symptoms, medical history, family medical history as well as personal likes and dislikes (food, drink, sleep, lifestyle choices, etc.) to try to establish the cause of the infertility (the same applies to any other imbalances, ailments and diagnoses). If you find yourself infertile, homeopathy offers different remedies for different problems and different people, unlike the one size fits all (or one size fits very few, since the success rate is low at approx. 25%) option made available through orthodox treatment to people struggling to conceive. Homeopathy doesn’t involve debilitating side effects.
The list below includes some common issues producing infertility, although this list isn’t conclusive by any means. I have successfully treated women who have gone on to conceive and give birth to healthy babies after finding themselves not getting pregnant, despite in some cases trying IVF multiple times.
Some possible issues producing infertility
- Addiction (cigarettes, alcohol, drugs)
- Adhesions (scar tissue)
- After effects of artificial hormones (oral contraceptive pill, hormonal coil, including generational use as well)
- Anovulation (not ovulating)
- Endometriosis (endometrial tissue growing outside the uterus)
- Fear of failing as a parent
- Fear of sexual intercourse
- Fear of the state of the world
- Fibroids
- Grief
- Hormonal imbalance
- Irregular or absent periods (hormonal imbalance)
- Medicines for chronic ailments (can cause infertility and/or cause congenital diseases in the foetus).
- Mucus imbalance
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
- Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) (cysts attached to the ovaries)
- Polyps
- PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
- Reason not established
- Scarring on internal organs
- Stress
- Traumatic births (previous births have been difficult and traumatic)
- Traumas (abusive childhood, sexual abuse, absent parents, death of a parent or sibling, etc.)
- Thrush (makes the mucus too thick for the sperm to be able to swim up to the egg).
- Thyroid issues
- Weight issues
Clearly some of these issues only apply to women, but some apply to both men and women.
Infertility comes in different shapes
The first ever woman I treated for ‘infertility’ had been through an extremely traumatic birth of her first child as well as receiving very traumatic news during the pregnancy. This was 15 years ago and today she would probably have been diagnosed with PTSD and received proper counselling.
She came to me because she had already conceived and given birth to one child but was not offered IVF on the NHS (the British National Health Service). I was newly qualified and she was one of my first patients. To be honest, when she told me why she had sought my help, I became a bit nervous because I saw the mental turmoil she was in, and really wanted to help her have another child.
Arnica Montana – the most common and well known homeopathic remedy
At this point her child was past three years old and she was terrified of having sexual intercourse with her partner who was a kind and gentle man and whom she loved and respected deeply. Since conceiving the first time had been a breeze, I decided to begin by going back to the trauma that she endured during the pregnancy and birth, and simply gave her some Arnica to begin with. I really didn’t think that a few doses of Arnica would be enough, but thankfully it was. Arnica is a brilliant trauma remedy, especially for physical and mental trauma, that everyone should keep at home, if not in their handbag. It quickly helped her relax, come to some acceptance of past events and made her able to look forward. About 18 months later I received a gorgeous photo of her eight month old son.
Recently, as some of you may have seen on my Facebook group (if not, click here), I received another picture of a gorgeous little girl conceived after I helped her mother rebalance her hormones following extensive use of synthetic hormones and four cycles of IVF over two years. Such a little cutie. Made me cry tears of joy (or as we say in Swedish ‘made me happy all the way into my bone marrow’).
Create a good environment for conception
Through homeopathic treatment your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing can become stronger and provide a better place for conception. In the event that pregnancy is still not possible, remedies for grief, disappointment, feeling of failure, rage and sadness, or whatever the feelings may be, can be used to aid acceptance of the situation.
